Counting calories

Updated onJune 25, 2026

Aidlab estimates calorie burn with a proprietary algorithm that combines heart rate, movement, workout type, and profile data.

How Aidlab estimates calories

The algorithm combines:

  • Heart rate, measured from ECG on the chest.
  • Movement patterns, detected by onboard motion sensors.
  • Training type, identified in real time during physical activity.
  • User profile data such as age, sex, height, and weight.

Combining these inputs helps Aidlab estimate activity intensity, not just movement, and calculate calorie burn while the required data is available.

Validation

The algorithm was developed and validated on data collected from hundreds of participants across activities such as walking, cycling, and high-intensity interval training (HIIT).

Where to find your data

You can view your calorie burn:

The values shown reflect the time when Aidlab was worn and actively connected to your phone.

Make sure it works

To enable accurate calorie tracking:

  1. Log in to the Aidlab App.
  2. Wear Aidlab correctly and ensure it's connected via Bluetooth.
  3. Complete your user profile with:
    • Age
    • Sex
    • Height
    • Weight

Missing profile data does not always block calorie tracking, but it can reduce accuracy.

Why calories may not appear

If you don't see any calorie data:

  • Ensure you are logged into the app.
  • Confirm that Aidlab was worn while connected to your phone.
  • Verify that your profile data is filled out completely.

Calories are calculated only while wearing the device and when heart rate is available. Historical data is available per day, but only for periods when Aidlab was worn.
